Boston Block

This shortcut block is made with 3 pieces of fabric and then cut out the middle with a template.
1. Cut out squares - size will depend on the size of quilt block made
for a 12 1/2" quilt block I use a 2 1/2" template
for a 18 1/2" quilt block I use a 3 1/2" template
So add at least 1/2" to the size of your template for your square size.
2. Cut your squares as you see above.
Make sure you have the colors where you want them.
3. sew one light triangle to one gold triangle.
trim the long side to a straight edge.
4. Add a blue triangle to the long side of the joined triangles

5. Lay the joined fabrics on a mini cutting mat.
Lay your template on the fabric so the corners match the seams

6. Use a rotary cutter to cut out the square. Make sure you
hold the template and don't let it move as you turn the mat.
The more accurate you can be here the better your blocks will
go together.

You can make mirror image blocks depending on where you put
the medium fabric.

Troubleshooting:
If you cut out the square as accurately as possible this will make
it easier to join blocks. IF your fabric is not even on each side of
a seam then you will probably lose your points when you join squares.
You can gently trim the corners to make the seams even.
IF you notice you are losing points when you join your squares then
take a look at the corners where the seams are and check to make sure
the fabric is even on each side of the seam. Trim it to regain your points.
